Which system suits you?

What do air conditioners have in common with fridges? A permanently installed split system works like a refrigerator: a refrigerant circulates in a cooling circuit between the indoor and outdoor units. Heat is drawn out of the room, the refrigerant absorbs it and releases it again at the outdoor unit – through evaporation at the indoor unit and compression at the outdoor unit.

For single rooms

1. Monosplit system

One indoor unit is connected to one outdoor unit by refrigerant lines. Ideal when you want to condition one specific room – a bedroom, an office or a loft conversion. Installation is straightforward, the space required is small and operation is pleasantly quiet.

Advantages: simple installation thanks to short pipe runs, lower purchase cost and particularly quiet operation – ideal when only individual rooms need cooling as required.

For several rooms

2. Multisplit system

Works like a monosplit system, but several indoor units – from two to five – are connected to a single outdoor unit. Ideal for a whole flat or several offices. Each room can be set individually while only one outdoor unit is needed on the facade or balcony.

Advantages: space-saving because only one outdoor unit is required, and individual control of each room – ideal for flats, single-family homes or smaller commercial units.

For large commercial buildings

3. VRF system

For large office buildings, hotels or commercial properties with many rooms we recommend VRF systems (Variable Refrigerant Flow). They serve up to 64 indoor units from one outdoor unit and offer the greatest flexibility in air conditioning.

Types of air conditioning unit

A few useful explanations of what we mean by „air conditioning“.

Portable units

Portable units are mobile and compact and normally vent the warm exhaust air out of a window through a hose. They are usually not very efficient and are better suited as a stopgap than for permanent use. ALAZMEH therefore does not supply portable units.

Wall units

Wall units are the best-known form of air conditioning. They are fixed permanently to the wall, usually just below the ceiling. Modern units have a plain, timeless design with a slim profile and so fit into any room.

Cassette units

Cassette units are recessed into suspended ceilings and are invisible apart from the air outlets. They are used particularly in offices, retail spaces, restaurants and hotels – distributing air evenly and unobtrusively through the room. Retrofitting is usually straightforward as well.

Floor-standing units

Floor-standing units sit at the edge of the room like a sideboard and cool through upward-facing air outlets. They suit rooms where wall or ceiling mounting is not possible or not wanted.

For large buildings

VRF and VRV systems in detail

For larger buildings a single system is often not enough – this is where VRF systems come in. VRF stands for „Variable Refrigerant Flow“ and VRV for „Variable Refrigerant Volume“; both describe the same technology (VRV is Daikin’s brand name). A powerful outdoor unit serves numerous indoor units and continuously adjusts the refrigerant volume to actual demand.

One system, many rooms

Up to 64 indoor units can be connected to a VRF system, each individually controllable. Ideal for buildings with many zones.

Output matched to demand

The system always delivers exactly as much output as each room currently needs. That noticeably reduces power consumption at part load.

Heat and cool at the same time

Systems with heat recovery cool one room and use the recovered heat to warm another at the same time – particularly efficient.

Ideal for commercial use

Office buildings, hotels, retail spaces, medical practices and larger residential properties – wherever many rooms need central, flexible climate control.
